| Digital Mammography |
|
There’s no question that mammography is one of the most important tools doctors have to help diagnose breast cancer. Digital mammography, the best technology available, produces images that are superior to those of traditional mammography units. Because the images are computerized, your caregiver can enlarge any area of concern to make a proper diagnosis. This computerization also enables your doctor to quickly compare your mammogram imagery from year to year—In addition, your high-definition mammography images can be sent electronically to your primary care or specialty physician to aid in communication between caregivers, and most importantly, in your personal health. Safe and accurate, yearly mammograms are recommended for all woman age 40 or older by the American Cancer Society and the American College of Radiology. The difference in picture quality of digital mammography to traditional film is comparable to a high definition television and analog. But the impact is potentially much greater than seeing a football game in more detail. Studies have shown digital mammography is significantly better at detecting breast cancers than film mammography in women younger than 50, women with dense breast tissue, and women who are pre-menopausal.
